At Georgetown Day School, we are committed to creating opportunities for our students to learn beyond the classroom. From engaging with community partners on advocacy initiatives as a part of the Policy Institute to interning with non-profits across the DMV, these immersive experiences foster curiosity and prepare our students to be lifelong learners.     The GDS Policy Institute is a student-led, interactive learning experience, wherein fellows use their passion towards a subject matter to try to shape the world around them. For four weeks during June and July, GDS High School students learn about pressing social justice issues, such as veteran homelessness and affordable housing, by meeting with advocates, engaging in conversation with policymakers and building relationships with individuals directly impacted by the issue they are examining.

    Every year in February, GDS hosts MLK Social Justice Teach-In Days at the Middle School and High School. In lieu of regularly scheduled classes, students participate in—and often lead—activites to honor the life, work, and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
  • STEAM Conference STEAM Conference
    Each spring, GDS hosts a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) conference. The conference is for students and faculty from DC-area independent, public, and charter schools. It focuses on the recruitment and retention of women and under-represented groups in STEAM disciplines.

    Every year, GDS students and staff participate in a three-day program called Minimester designed to bring our mission to life through an immersive and experiential learning experience wholly separate from the normal, day-to-day academic program of the school.
