Exploring Identity through the Eyes of a Second Grader

Students creatively explore and answer the question “Who Am I?”
The Identity Project is the culmination of a year-long exploratory study of self in the second grade. Students learned about the eight major identifiers (such as gender, race, religion, appearance, abilities) and took an introspective journey to discovering what makes them unique. In a beautiful showcase, students created montages to highlight the layers that create the story of their lives.

Guests participated in an interactive artwork "Identity Tapestry" that was intended to illustrate the diversity and intersections of identities here at GDS. This piece was modeled after an installation of the same name by Mary Corey March.
