Financial Aid Endowment
As we seek to meet the ever-changing needs of our students, we also continue to build upon the foundation put in place by GDS’s visionary founders. Their commitment to building a community of learning that defied the norms of the time and embraced academic excellence combined with the pursuit of social justice is at the heart of GDS’s daily life. A core part of that commitment to excellence and justice is financial aid, which affords all of our students a community of remarkably diverse backgrounds, experiences, and opinions. An investment in financial aid at GDS is truly an investment in our entire student body.
Professional Development and Faculty Support Endowment
Georgetown Day School has a long-standing commitment to experiential and innovative learning. Beginning in PK, with chicks hatched in the classroom as part of a unit on the life cycle, continuing through Middle School with activities such as Hill Day, which offers a deep look at constitutional issues, and fully embraced in the High School with a variety of curricular and co-curricular activities that include a Research Methods class, the Augur Bit, the Horn of Africa Program, and Debate, the School community feels passionately that an education grounded firmly in hands-on learning is the best preparation for students expected to go out into the world and find creative solutions to society’s most pressing problems.
The generosity of parents of current and past students, grandparents, and alumni each and every year make our work a reality. Donors that have established or contributed to endowed funds for professional development and staff support at GDS allow and encourage our faculty to seek out the most innovative and creative learning opportunities for our students.

Establishing Named Endowed Funds
Members of the GDS community have established named endowed funds in support of a range of existing needs and programs along with emerging strategic initiatives. Our minimum to establish a named endowed fund is $50,000, and funds can be established at any time. Contact Lindsey Jacobson, director of major gifts and donor services, at 202-295-1061 to discuss your named endowed fund.

Donor Profile: Beano Solomon
Although her daughter Virginia graduating in 1999, GDS donor Beano Solomon remains an active donor to GDS.
“I support GDS because all of these years—and schools—later, GDS remains the school that means the most to my daughter,” says Beano. “I supported GDS when she went there to help grow and support the athletic program. I support it now because I feel strongly about all kids having access to the excellent programs that GDS provides, regardless of income.”
From some of the first uniforms for GDS sports teams to funding for financial aid, Beano’s legacy at GDS is built on a history of philanthropy in her family. “My parents rolled up their sleeves and supported the causes that meant the most to them,” says Beano.
Both Beano and Virginia feel a strong connection to the GDS community. “GDS has been there for us through the years,” says Beano. Adds Virginia: “GDS has been by far the most intellectually rigorous environment I have ever experienced. The combination of passion from the faculty and willingness to share excitement about ideas among the students make it a place that has indelibly shaped my life.”

Georgetown Day School is a coed, preK-12, non-sectarian private school in Washington, DC with small class sizes and a diverse school community. Our comprehensive, innovative curriculum includes hands-on learning, honors and AP classes, as well as advanced-level math and STEM courses. An education is not just college prep and SAT scores. GDS teachers focus on providing the best education for each child, from elementary grades through high school. The school performing arts program includes theater, dance, and music. The athletics program offers competitive sports for student athletes, including cross-country, track, soccer, lacrosse, and crew/rowing. With our strong commitment to financial aid, an independent school tuition is affordable.
